Wondering....

Formula for Magic Attack Power.
What exactly is the ratio of INT to Magic Attack Power?

I Have 250 int on my HM Mage and almost a 470 attack power...

I'd like to know more about the science behind that and how much wis is needed per int to not miss effectively.

I'm wondering this because in my personal Experience with Mages, the +7 int HM Mage is the biggest waste of time. You don't really Achieve Lapis until what...lvl 20? lvl 25? Aside from that, Who's to say you can farm Noble - Dread armor to link Wis Lapis. ON TOP OF THAT!!!!---Who's to say you even will have the luck of linking all these lapis.

I've found the perfect build to be +7 int every other level...and maybe adding 1 wis every other level to 12...Then full int till 20...then 1 wis till 30...

I Don't miss at all..and I'm just as powerful as a int mage, AND I have Magical Defense, So mages don't hit me as hard in pvp.

but...some help would be Appreciated

Thank you

The magic attack formula is simple enough.

Magic Attack = 1.3(Int) + 0.2(Wis)

Concerning accuracy, after playing Mages of all modes and almost all levels (haven't done 59 or 60 yet Razz) I've found that Wis is not needed at all until you get to Map4 (Pando for AoL, Lanhaar for UoF). Your accuracy will be perfectly fine with just the natural bonuses you get on your armor or in accessories. 20-30 Wis? Perfect. Don't need any more.

Once you hit Map4, you'll find that your accuracy suddenly plummets. There's no mid-range. It goes from grinding in CL/FL and doing fine with no Wis to going to Pando/Lanhaar and sucking majorly.

Most Mages/Pagans start Pando/Lanhaar at about Lv48. By that level, you can farm Wis lapis quite easily, even Lv4s. But let's not even worry about Lv4s. Let's use Lv2s and 3s.

Wise Loop Lv4 x2 = 22 Wis.
Dread Set = 15 Wis.
Lv40 Pando/Lanhaar Weapon Int/Wis base = 19 Wis.

That's 56 Wis without even lapising. 96 if you have a healer.

Lv3 Wis x 4 = 28 Wis.
Lv2 Wis x 4 = 20 Wis.

Total Wis: 108 alone, 148 with Prayer Lv3.

That's definitely enough for introduction to Map4. As you get higher, you'll need a bit more, but as you get higher, your ability to farm Lv4 lapis will get even better.

Cost:
About 15 Lv3 Wis = 1.5mil
About 10 Lv2 Wis = 1mil
Set of Dread Gear = free for HM, about 12mil for NM

So for no more than 14.5mil, you've got all the Wis you need for Map4 and you can still go pure Int Wink

And as I said, the further you get, the easier it gets to get better gear. Also, keep in mind that Wis is not needed in PvP. Real opponents don't have magical evasion and there are better options for gaining resist. On my Lv58 Mage, I have about 160 Wis when I wear my grinding accessories (about 140 with my PvP accessories). Once I hit Lv60, I'm taking all the Wis out of my gear and replacing it with HP, which is far more useful in PvP.

1 int gives 1.3 magic attack.
1 wis gives 0.2 magic attack.

I don't believe anybody knows the formula for magic accuracy yet, but if it's anything like physical accuracy/dex then it could well be determined by the difference between your wis and your opponent's wis.
With dex you don't see any increased accuracy until the difference is over 200 or so - if wis/magic accuracy is the same then you probably won't get any improved magic accuracy until very high levels.

The general rule with dex/rec/wis/luc is that a little bit is not much use - get lots or don't bother.

Edit: I shouldn't use tabbed browsing & reply to threads - doh!

I'm not sure whether mobs/enemies have less wis in general, or whther it goes on a different formula to Dex based accuracy, but you can get by with about half as much Wis as you can Dex, roughly speaking.

Until you hit Pando, when 150 Wis is a useful thing.

As has been stated, int adds 1.3 and wis adds .2.

However, people forgot a few factors. Weapon damage is factored in as well at a 1 for 1 basis, so consider an assault lapis. Support spell also adds to magic damage even if the description is pretty badly riddled with typographical/translational errors.

My experience with mages, I have 2, shows me that wis is not really not needed until higher lvls. My HM mage is full INT lv44 with maybe 20-30 WIS from lapis and gear, and only now has started to miss. I still hit 85% of the time. If you can put some half-way decent wis lapis in your gear, you'll be fine. I'll be putting some better wis lapis in my next set of gear for pando however.
