Please don't move this to suggestions until there is some feedback/replies, to see if even a somewhat sensible idea. If a stupid suggestion, the thread will die fast enough.
Right now new toons get "beginner" pbi and pssp, couple of nice items to kick start their leveling. These items are not tradeable, can't be put in shop, and are locked to just the specific toon. Nice addition, no complaints.
As toons get into the 90's and beyond, the cost of xpb/sbp to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time starts to get insane. At level 122 it now takes around 1000 xpb to level. Anyone doing some quick math will see the amount of real life $$$ required to continue to level is insane, and I am sure that is one of the major factors why many choose to leave the game long before approaching the level 145 level cap.
What would peoples thoughts be if Aeria were to have the following items:
- XPB/SPB rank I - normal xpb/spb, work exactly as they exist today. Fully tradeable.
- XPB/SPB rank II - they would work the same, but similar to the beginner pbi/pssp, they are locked to the given toon upon in-game purchase. I would think locked to the given account would be better, that way could be sold in the web mall. But not tradeable, only usable by that account, and only for toons levels 90-110.
- XPB/SPB rank III - same as rank II, but only usable for levels 110-130.
- XPB/SPB rank IV - same as rank II, but only usable for levels 130+
The reasoning with the above is Aeria could continue to charge normal prices for the xpb/spb packages as they do today, but to "tier the prices" for the other ranks such that you might get so many rank II for $X, so many rank III for $Y, and so many rank IV for $Z. This way as you continue to play the game if you want AP items to level, you still have to pay a reasonable amount of AP, but not the fortune it costs today and drives players away. Thoughts?
And in response to comments that "Well I would have to buy AP then once above level 90". Technically no, you can continue to play for free if you choose. However, I would think 90 levels of completely free play is pretty good. There are costs to hosts these games, and I don't think paying to play wrong, just more reasonable prices than today.
