Would you recommend to specialize in either one of the weaponskills (axe/spear)?

I would recommend specialising. Getting only drips and drabs from both skills would only make you a mediocre hybrid, but thats just my opinion.
I don't know about Axe Mercs but as a Spear Merc i can tell you I already had to buy 15 Merc Springs just to level up all my formation skills at lv50, so even if I wanted to I don't have any points to spend on Axe skills.

specialize is better.

Uber tank as an Ax Merc
Or Party Buffer/Atker Spear Merc.

hybrid is probably better. =) specialization is ok, but not a true tank.

I followed the solo merc, 2 strg 1 dur and I'm now lvl 22 and I have to sit for more MP every 3-4 mobs. I constantly run out of MP. My sub jobs are thief and doctor. Any suggestions?

solo merc.. I presume Axe/shield? You may want to switch to a 2:1 dur/phy or phy/dur so you get regen from that. I don't see why a merc with good def will need doc sub.. I normally just do thief + bm sub, lash out means I don't really need to use skills that much (only lash out and burning rage). I presume you are using doc sub to first aid?

I would like to know if I messed my stats up, lol. I'm a lvl 27 axe merc.

Wisdom: 7
Agility: 20
Dexterity: 15
Durability: 25

I saw some spear merc, lvl 27 fighting monkeys in Giantwood without losing a lot of HP and he hit a lot. But when I fight them I lose half HP and I need a lot of time to just kill 1 monkey. How comes?? How should I build my stats up again?

Yes I use Axe/Shield when I solo, but recently I started to party and I've been using both Axe and Spear. I haven't been using my doctor lately, you're right I don't really need it. I've been using Shaman's Spring Cleaning for the MP because the Thief's Control Breathing is just not enough. I do have BM, but I haven't lvled it yet. I took note of what you said and I will try that. Thanks!! I appreciate your input.

I find being a Merc very interesting and fun, and a lot more to learn than any other jobs that I've tried so far.
